Krishi Vigyan Kendra Tinsukia got sanctioned by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in the year 2004 under the administrative control of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat.This KVK is situated at Gellapukhuri village under Guijan Block within Tinsukia Sub-division and falls under the Upper Brahmaputra Valley Zone, Assam. Soils are sandy to clayey and acidic in nature. The climate is subtropical, warm and humid with an average annual rainfall of 2500 mm. and average rainy days are 140 to 150 days per year. The average maximum temperature is about 39 ºC and minimum 9 ºC. The climate is excellent and nature has bestowed all its blessings in the form of deep forest, grand rivers, exquisitely beautiful landscape, diverse flora and fauna, lovely tea gardens and bio-diversity hot spots.

Services Offered

  • Participation in the Trainings arranged by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra: Interested farmers may register their names with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra either personally or through Phone Or E mail for the training he /she wishes to attend. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra can also arrange an off campus training on desired topics in farmer's village if more than 25 farmers from the same village want to participate. Special trainings can also be arranged for organizations on topics of their choice.

  • Use of efficient technological tools and Implements:Farmers can be facilitated to go for innovative farming with the use of efficient technological tools as well as other agri implements, which Krishi Vigyan Kendra, could guide. This has been demonstrated in some villages in the recent past.

  • Creation of Farmers, Groups: Farmers Groups/Clubs are created by KVK as an important activity. Farmers are routinely encouraged with the help of Department of Agriculture for attending bi-annual event such as Kisan Mela and Farm Darshan held in Rabi and Kharif, respectively.

  • Soil and Water Testing: Farmers can get their soil and water samples tested for all eight parameters or parameters of their choice at reasonable rates in soil testing laboratory located at CCS HAU, Hisar. Other institutions and organizations can also avail this facility.

  • Interaction with Scientists: Farmers interact with the scientists at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and get consultancy on issues related to agriculture and allied fields and information on advanced technological options.

  • Mobile SMS Advisory Service: Farmers may register themslselves with KVK for getting time to time agri-advisories through mobile SMS service.

  • Better Quality Seed Advisory: Demonstration/trials of latest varieties of cereals, pulses and oilseeds are routinely undertaken by KVK through FLDs and OFTs at farmers' fields. The KVK brings into discussion various opportunities and threats faced by the farmers in procurement of quality seed in the district.

  • Seed, Planting material including nursery input management and facilitation advisory for fruit and vegetable

  • Exposure Visits: Farmer Groups could be facilitated to go for exposure visits at innovative farms and enterprises located in state. For out of state activities of this type, however, coordination with the state government and union government through Directorate of Extension Education, is required.
